Firefighters from multiple agencies teamed up to battle two large vegetation fires Saturday afternoon in Yolo County.

One blaze burned several acres in a rural area north of the Yolo Causeway, involving firefighters from the Davis, UC Davis, West Sacramento and Clarksburg fire departments who were dispatched at about 5:15 p.m.

Davis-UCD Fire Chief Nathan Trauernicht said crews encountered “significant access issues” at the scene, and flames ignited a line of trees that “took a while for mop-up.”

A Davis fire crew also was among the personnel responding to a 12-acre grass fire near Highway 128 and Pleasants Valley Road west of Winters.

Winters Fire Department Division Chief Greg Lewis said the first unit to arrive on scene “reported a rapidly spreading fire with structures threatened.” One nearby resident was treated and released for smoke inhalation, and property loss was limited to a small metal storage shed.

“Quick aggressive work by first arriving units saved a mobile home, two RVs, a pickup, a motorcycle and three ducks,” Lewis added.

Other responding agencies included the West Plainfield, Willow Oak, Madison, Esparto, Vacaville, Dixon, Yocha Dehe and Capay fire departments, as well as Cal Fire.

California Highway Patrol officers also went to the scene for traffic control at Highway 128, which was briefly shut down during the incident.

The cause of both fires remain under investigation.
