Eduardo Alejandro Letelier, now free on $1 million bail, appeared Wednesday in Yolo Superior Court, where Commissioner Kent O’Mara set the Aug. 25 preliminary hearing date.
Letelier, 43, stands accused of molesting a 4-year-old girl on July 13 at Ximena’s Daycare, the facility Letelier and his wife have operated out of their Braddock Court residence since 2001.
Authorities said Letelier attempted to flee the house when they attempted to serve a search warrant the following day, resulting in an additional charge of resisting arrest.
Letelier has pleaded not guilty to the allegations.
“We’re quite confident that when all the facts are known, the evidence will show that Eduardo is not guilty of this,” defense attorney Michael Chastaine said following Letelier’s arraignment hearing last week.
The state Department of Social Services’ Community Care Licensing Division, which is conducting its own investigation into the allegations, has temporarily suspended the Leteliers’ license to operate the day-care center.
A visiting Yolo County judge previously ordered that Letelier surrender his passport, undergo GPS monitoring and stay away from minor children other than his own if freed on bail.
