Woodland’s Pioneer High School went into lockdown mode Thursday morning after school officials reported that an armed male was on campus.

Woodland police Lt. Anthony Cucchi said school administrators detained the person, who was cooperative, shortly after the 8:07 a.m. report to police. Officers who arrived on scene discovered the suspect had a butterfly knife, but not a gun.

“Further investigation revealed that the subject was a 17-year-old Woodland resident and that he was not a student of Pioneer High School,” Cucchi said in a news release. “It was also learned that the subject never had firearm and did not attempt to assault any students or staff.”

Police arrested the teen, whose name was not released because he is a minor, on charges of possession of a weapon on school campus and lodged him at Yolo County Juvenile Hall. The school lockdown was lifted after about seven minutes, Cucchi said.
