Alcohol is believed to have played a role in a crash Saturday near Clarksburg that left the driver dead and his two passengers injured, according to the California HIghway Patrol.
Yolo County coroner’s officials identified the driver as 53-year-old Brad Carper of Sacramento, who was behind the wheel of a Nissan Pathfinder that ran off South River Road near County Road 142 shortly before 7 p.m.
The CHP reported that the vehicle crossed the oncoming lane and drifted off the east edge of the road, prompting Carper to overcorrect and run off the road’s west side, where it overturned down a levee embankment.
Both Carper and his rear passenger, identified only as a 32-year-old Sacramento man, were not wearing seatbelts and were ejected from the vehicle.
The rear passenger sustained major injuries, including a lacerated spleen, while a 44-year-old Sacramento woman sitting in the front passenger seat survived with scrapes and scratches, officers said.
