One driver died and another suffered major injuries Thursday morning in a head-on collision on Interstate 5 between Zamora and Dunnigan.
According to the California Highway Patrol, a 37-year-old woman was driving a Pontiac southbound on I-5 near County Road 91B when, for unknown reasons, her vehicle crossed the center divider into the northbound lanes and collided with a Toyota at about 8:30 a.m.
The Pontiac’s driver, whose identity had not been released as of Thursday evening, died at the scene. The other driver, 68-year-old James L. Schwab of Gold Beach, Ore., was transported to the UC Davis Medical Center with major injuries.
The case of the crash remains under investigation.
