A Davis man died Friday after collapsing while riding his bicycle, authorities said.
Davis police Sgt. Ariel Pineda said Gerald Schimke, 78, fell to the ground while riding in the area of Sixth and B streets shortly before 3:30 p.m. He passed away after being taken to Sutter Davis Hospital.
Yolo County Chief Deputy Coroner Gina Moya said Schimke likely suffered a “cardiac event” that led to the fall. Pineda confirmed that “no other objects or persons appeared to be involved.”
A Davis fire crew began CPR efforts upon arriving on scene, followed by advanced life support by ambulance paramedics who transported Schimke to Sutter with two firefighters assisting on board, the Davis Fire Department reported.
