A garage fire damaged a North Davis home Wednesday, temporarily displacing the residents, according to the Davis Fire Department.
The fire, the cause of which remains under investigation, was reported at 1:43 p.m. at the home in the 400 block of Cabrillo Avenue.
“The residents smelled smoke, went out to investigate and noticed the garage was on fire,” Division Chief Paul Swanson said. Crews from the Davis and UC Davis fire departments arrived to find the garage fully involved in flames.
The family escaped safely, and firefighters rescued a pet cat that was still inside the house, Swanson said. Firefighters also prevented the flames, which had spread to a side yard, from damaging the inside of the home as well as the house next door.
No injuries were reported, but the fire caused an estimated $200,000 in damage and resulted in smoke damage throughout the house. Two vehicles parked in the garage and on the driveway were destroyed
The Red Cross is assisting the family with living arrangements pending repairs, Swanson said.
Fire crews from the Woodland and West Sacramento fire departments provided station in coverage in Davis while local firefighters were at the scene.
