The Interstate 5 rest stop in Dunnigan yielded yet another drug bust for the Yolo County Sheriff’s Office, whose deputies arrested two people on drug possession charges early Thursday morning.
Officials said a deputy came upon a vehicle with expired registration while patrolling the northbound rest stop shortly after midnight. One occupant, 41-year-old James Looney of Hoopa, was found to have two warrants for his arrest and was taken into custody.
A subsequent search of his vehicle reportedly revealed nearly 80 grams of methamphetamine and more than 100 grams of marijuana, plus drug paraphernalia and 105 rounds of ammunition.
Both Looney and 23-year-old Kayla Boyd, also of Hoopa, were booked into the Yolo County Jail on suspicion of transportation and possession of methamphetamine for sale and possession of drug paraphernalia. Looney faces additional charges for the outstanding warrants and being a felon in possession of ammunition, sheriff’s officials said.
